Analysis

This ordinance:

1. Changes the number of days off that fire equipment dispatchers and fire supervisors receive per year in lieu of holidays or holiday pay from 11 to 12 days.

2. Provides that employees assigned to the drop-off centers may receive one day off in lieu of a recognized city holiday when the holiday falls on a workweek day and the drop-off center is closed to the public.

Body

The Mayor and Common Council of the City of Milwaukee do ordain as follows:

 

Part 1. Section 350-2-2-a of the code is amended to read:

 

350-2. Holidays, General Provisions.

2. FIRE DEPARTMENT a. Fire equipment dispatchers and fire dispatch supervisors shall receive [[11]] >>12<< days off per calendar year in lieu of holidays or holiday pay, earned at the rate of [[0.9167 days]] >>one day<< for each calendar month of active service during that calendar year. This holiday time-off shall be taken in the calendar year in which it was earned.

 

Part 2. Section 350-2-2.5 of the code is amended to read:

 

2.5. PUBLIC WORKS. a. Floating holiday. As determined by the commissioner of public works, employees assigned to the sanitation services section or the fleet services dispatch section may receive one day off per calendar year in lieu of the New Year’s Eve holiday or holiday pay. This holiday time-off shall be taken in the following calendar year. >>Employees assigned to the drop-off centers may receive one day off in lieu of a recognized city holiday when a recognized city holiday under s. 350-1 falls on a workweek day and the drop-off center is closed to the public. This holiday time-off shall be taken in the current calendar year.<<

b. Eligibility. To be eligible, an employee shall have been on paid status for at least 2 work days during the calendar week the [[New Year’s Eve]] holiday occurs.
