Analysis

This resolution supports the City of Milwaukee’s sister city Irpin, Ukraine, and condemns Russia’s military assault on Ukraine.

 

Body

Whereas, The City of Milwaukee became sister cities with Irpin, Ukraine, a small city just outside of Kyiv, in March 2018; and

 

Whereas, In February 2022, Russia’s military invaded Ukraine, killing civilians and launching destructive attacks in many parts of the country, including Irpin; and

 

Whereas, Milwaukee condemns Russia’s unjustifiable and violent war on Ukraine’s peaceful citizens, democratically elected government, and proud cultural heritage; and

 

Whereas, Milwaukee stands with its sister city of Irpin and the people who are suffering in the face of aggression; and

 

Whereas, Milwaukee’s diverse citizens share the values of democratic governance, self-determination, and freedom of expression, which Ukrainians are now bravely defending with their lives; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the City of Milwaukee supports its sister city Irpin, Ukraine, and condemns Russia’s military assault on Ukraine.
