Motion ordering a city-wide special election to be held on April 5, 2022, to fill the vacant office of the mayor of the City of Milwaukee.

 

Analysis

This motion orders the Election Commission to hold a special election on April 5, 2022, to fill the remaining unexpired term in the vacant office of the mayor of the City of Milwaukee.

 

Body

Whereas, By the resignation of former-Mayor Tom Barrett, the office of mayor of the City of Milwaukee became vacant effective December 22, 2021; now, therefore,

 

It is Moved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that, pursuant to s. 17.23(1b), Wis. Stats., the Election Commission is ordered to hold a city-wide special election on April 5, 2022, to fill the vacant office of mayor of the City of Milwaukee; and, it is

 

Further Moved, That a special primary, if needed, shall be held on February 15, 2022; and, it is

 

Further Moved, That the earliest date for circulating nomination papers for the special election shall be December 23, 2021; and, it is

 

Further Moved, That the deadline for submitting nomination papers to the Election Commission shall be 5:00 p.m., January 11, 2022; and, it is

 

Further Moved, That a successor shall be elected for the remainder of the unexpired term that will expire on April 16, 2024.
