Minutes note: Applicant at the table, 6222 W. Fairmount Ave. Alex Runner, Staff Assistant to Ald. Willie Hines, and Kevin Hulbert from the Milwaukee Health Department also at the table. Ms. Smith says that during the spring and summer, the store will have fresh fruits and vegetables. Mr. Runner says that the applicant has done everything that she has been asked to do, but he says that Ald. Hines believes that there are too many convenience stores in the area. He also believes that the business will result in more pedestrian traffic in an area in which there is already a number of pedestrian-car accidents. Ms. Smith also says that she plans on having a crossing guard from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. to help with children who may cross the street from a housing development to patronize the store. She also says that the store will be accepting W.I.C. and will be required to have certain amounts of healthy food in order to qualify for the program. The applicant says that she has no intention of applying for a liquor license in the future. No neighborhood objectors to traffic problems present when called. Ald. Hamilton moves to approve the license. Prevailed 5-0.
