Title

Resolution directing the Department of City Development and the Department of Public Works to conduct a feasibility study to identify locations that can be developed into neighborhood gathering spaces for economic development and cultural programming.

Analysis

This resolution directs the Department of City Development and the Department of Public Works to identify vacant, or in use properties and/or parcels of land that can be developed into gathering spaces for the public. The resolution also directs the departments to submit a report of their findings to the Common Council within 120 of the adoption of this resolution.

Body

Whereas, Public and private entities across the city have been successful in converting underutilized areas into community spaces that promote commerce and social gathering, such as the Deer District, Zócalo Food Truck Park, Sherman Phoenix, and the forthcoming North Avenue Market; and

 

Whereas, There are a number of properties and parcels across the city that are vacant or underutilized; and

 

Whereas, The community has expressed interest in having more locations for small business development, small local festivals and celebrations, and similar community gatherings; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, the Department of Public Works and the Department of City Development are directed to conduct a feasibility study to identify locations that can be developed into gathering places for the public; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, that the Department of Public Works and the Department of City Development shall submit a report of their findings to the Common Council within 120 days of the adoption of this resolution.
