Title
Resolution relating to the renewal of the sister city relationship between the City of Milwaukee and Tarime District, Tanzania.
Analysis
This resolution approves the renewal of a sister city relationship between the City of Milwaukee and Tarime District, Tanzania. This sister city relationship shall expire 5 years after the adoption of this resolution unless extended for another 5 years by Common Council resolution.
Body
Whereas, The Common Council created the Sister Cities Committee to assist in the establishment and maintenance of sister city relationships pursuant to Sister Cities International guidelines; and
Whereas, The Sister Cities Committee reviews requests for new relationships, investigates and makes recommendations to the Common Council concerning the establishment of new relationships and the maintenance or termination of existing sister city relationships; and
Whereas, On July 6, 2016, the Common Council adopted File Number 160176, a resolution establishing a sister city relationship between the City of Milwaukee and Tarime District, Tanzania; and
Whereas, The Sister Cities Committee has reviewed the renewal application of Tarime District, Tanzania, and recommends that a sister city relationship continue pursuant to ch. 335 of the Code; and
Whereas, The sister city relationship between the City of Milwaukee and Tarime District, Tanzania will continue to benefit both cities in the areas of economic and agricultural development, education, health, cultural exchange, social awareness and tourism; and
Whereas, This sister city relationship will receive local support through the nonprofit Mosorec International Foundation; and
Whereas, The sister city relationship will receive support in Tarime District through Mosorec International Foundation and the Tarime District Town Council; now, therefore, be it
