Title

Substitute resolution amending Common Council Resolution File Number 201519 relating to the MPD Diversion Task Force.

Analysis

This resolution amends Common Council Resolution File Number 210519, adopted on March 23, 2021, as follows:

Changes the Task Force’s name to Community Intervention Task Force.

Adds a Task Force member from the community with extensive violence prevention experience to be appointed by the Common Council President.

Directs that the master plan developed by the Task Force include recommendations on how to ameliorate the circumstances that often lead to emergency calls for service stemming from mental health, substance abuse and homelessness, with a goal of reducing the need in the community for these types of emergency services.

Extends the deadline for presenting the master plan to the Common Council from September 30, 2021, to April 30, 2022.

Whereas, The Task Force has further determined the quality of the master plan developed would be enhanced by adding a member with extensive sxperience in violence prevention, and by including recommendations on how to ameliorate the circumstances that often lead to emergency calls for service stemming from mental health, substance abuse and homelessness, with a goal of reducing the need in the community for these types of emergency service; now, therefore, be it
