Title

Substitute resolution approving an intergovernmental mutual assistance agreement between the City of Milwaukee and the Healthcare Emergency Readiness Coalition, Inc., Region Seven.

Analysis

This resolution approves an intergovernmental mutual assistance agreement between the City of Milwaukee and the Healthcare Emergency Readiness Coalition, Inc., Region Seven, representing the 19 public health departments located in southeast Wisconsin to coordinate the public health response to a disaster, emergency or public health need, and to facilitate communications and share resources.

 

Body

Whereas, Chapters 66 and 251, Wis. Stats., authorize local public health departments in Wisconsin to enter into agreements to receive or furnish services, or to jointly exercise any power or duty required or authorized by law during a disaster, emergency or public need; and

 

Whereas, Nineteen public health departments located in Southeast Wisconsin have joined together to form the Healthcare Emergency Readiness Coalition, Inc., Region Seven (HERC), to coordinate the public health response to a disaster, emergency or public health need, and to facilitate communications and share resources; and

 

Whereas, The Milwaukee Health Department has determined it is in the Milwaukee’s best interest to enter into an agreement with the other public health department members of HERC to facilitate communication and share resources in the event of a disaster, emergency or public health need; and

 

Whereas, The sharing of resources or assistance under this agreement will be at the sole discretion of the Milwaukee Health Department; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Commissioner of Health is authorized to execute the Memorandum of Understanding between the Healthcare Emergency Readiness Coalition, Inc., Region Seven, a copy of which is attached to this file.
