Whereas, Common Council File Number 200980 authorizes the settlement of claims against the City of Milwaukee in the lawsuit entitled Sterling D. Brown v. City of Milwaukee, et al., Case No. 18-CV-922-PP. The City will fund the settlement using 2021 Common Council Contingent Funds.
Whereas, Common Council File Number 200980 authorizes the settlement of claims against the City of Milwaukee in the lawsuit entitled; and Sterling D. Brown v. City of Milwaukee, et al., Case No. 18-CV-922-PP.
Whereas, the agreed-upon $750,000 settlement amount exceeds the available balance in the Damages and Claims Fund Special Purpose Account (0001-1490-S118-006300); and
Whereas, the 2021 Budget of the City of Milwaukee authorized $5,000,000 in the Common Council Contingent Funds for purposes not contemplated at the time the budget was adopted; and
Whereas, The City desires to use up to $750,000 dollars of the 2021 Common Council Contingent Fund to fund this settlement; and now therefore be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that an amount of $750,000 be appropriated from the 2021 Common Council Contingent Fund Account No. 0001-9990-C001-006300 and placed within the 2021 Damages and Claims Fund Special Purpose Account 0001-1490-S118-006300; and be it
Further Resolved, That the proper City officers are authorized to make necessary transfers to the appropriate accounts to fund or disperse the settlement amount.
