Analysis
This resolution establishes a City of Milwaukee IT Security Plan. This plan provides a catalog of security policies to protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of the City of Milwaukee’s information.
Body
Whereas, The City Information Management Committee is responsible for policy and management of the City’s information resources; and
Whereas, The City is committed to complying with applicable state law and other rules and regulations regarding the management of information resources; and
Whereas, The Information Security Plan was designed with the intention of providing managers, administrators, and other City employees with basic security strategies to be used in achieving an acceptable level of information security; and
Whereas, This document follows the recommended baseline security controls as outlined by The National Institute of Standards and Technology in the NIST 800-53, R4 Special Publication for the protection of government systems; and
Whereas, These standards have been widely adopted and are endorsed by the federal government, as they encompass security best practices; and
Whereas, Following NIST’s cybersecurity framework, this plan establishes a guideline for the development and eventual implementation of a formalized City of Milwaukee Information Security Program to include Policies, Standards and Procedures; and
Whereas, The policies in this plan apply to all City of Milwaukee data, systems, activities, and assets owned, leased, controlled, or used by City of Milwaukee personnel, its agents, contractors, or other business partners on behalf of the City of Milwaukee; and
Whereas, The City Information Management Committee has prepared a City of Milwaukee Information Security Plan, which was approved by the committee; and
