Title

Resolution directing the Department of Public Works to immediately resume street sweeping and transition to a biweekly street sweeping schedule city-wide.

 

Analysis

This resolution directs the Department of Public Works to immediately resume street sweeping, that was suspended due to the ongoing threat of COVID-19, and extend the biweekly street sweeping cycle from the combined sewer area only to city-wide.

 

Body

Whereas, The Department of Public Works has suspended street sweeping operations in response to the COVID-19 health emergency; and

 

Whereas, Street sweepers only require a single operator, and comply with social distancing guidelines; and

 

Whereas, Debris and Litter are typically addressed this time of year with a significant street sweeping push through the city; and

 

Whereas, The Department of Public Works typically operates a biweekly street sweeping cycle only within the combined sewer area; and

 

Whereas, The 2020 Budget was amended to maintain biweekly street sweeping within the combined sewer area; and

 

Whereas, Areas outside of the combined sewer area typically receive street sweeping on a monthly cycle; and

 

Whereas, Areas outside of the combined sewer area still experience litter and would benefit from a biweekly street sweeping schedule; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Department of Public Works is directed to immediately resume street sweeping and transition to a biweekly street sweeping schedule city-wide; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That the Department of Public Works shall report to the Common Council on the progress of this resumption of duties and scheduling transition within 4 months.
