Analysis
This resolution directs the Municipal Port Director to prepare and present a report to the Common Council for reaching out to existing sister cities. The Municipal Port Director shall present this report to the Common Council within 4 months of adoption of this resolution.
Body
Whereas, The 2020 Budget was adopted by Common Council File Number 190001 on November 26, 2019; and
Whereas, Amendment 62 placed a footnote in the Budget stating, “The Municipal Port Director shall present a report to the common Council for reaching out to Sister Cities”; and
Whereas, The Common Council forms sister city relationships, pursuant to ch. 335 of the Code, with cities that have mutual interest in the areas of culture and business; and
Whereas, Because sister cities have shared economic and business interests, they can be preferable trading partners for the city; and
Whereas, The Port of Milwaukee has increased its overall international tonnage through the Great Lakes - St. Lawrence Seaway; and
Whereas, The Port of Milwaukee is in a strong position to reach out to existing sister cities because of the international usage of the port and knowledge of mutually-beneficial international partnerships; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Municipal Port Director shall prepare and present a report to the Common Council for reaching out to Milwaukee’s existing sister cities; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Municipal Port Director shall present this report to the Common Council within 4 months of adoption of this resolution.
