This resolution authorizes the City Clerk to expend up to $20,000 from the MKE Community Excellence Fund Special Purpose Account for the 2019 Hip-Hop Week MKE event.
Body
Whereas, The City has allocated $100,000 in funding in 2019 for a new MKE Community Excellence Fund Special Purpose Account (“SPA”); and
Whereas, The purpose of this SPA is to provide resources to support community events that promote peace and violence prevention, with the intention that allocations from the SPA will be matched by contributions from local organizations; and
Whereas, Hip-Hop Week MKE was one of several potential SPA funding recipients identified in the 2019 Budget process; and
Whereas, Hip-Hop Week MKE is a local campaign inspired by the idea that hip-hop, through the lens of health, financial literacy and civic engagement, can transform a community; and
Whereas, Hip-Hop Week MKE seeks to promote partnership with schools and local and national community groups to use hip-hop as a tool to teach youth and adults about financial literacy, political awareness and health issues affecting the city population; and
Whereas, The City has designated August 19-25, 2019, as Hip-Hop Week MKE (Common Council File Number 181530); and
Whereas, The 2019 Budget included $20,000 in funding for Hip-Hop Week MKE in a Common Council-City Clerk special fund; and
Whereas, The City has also received more than $10,000 in donations for support of the 2019 Hip-Hop Week MKE; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the City Clerk is directed to expend up to $20,000 from the MKE Community Excellence Fund Special Purpose Account (0001 1310 S246 006300) for payment or reimbursement of expenses related to the 2019 Hip-...
