Analysis

This resolution directs the Department of Administration - Purchasing Division to study the feasibility and costs of implementing an Environmentally Friendly Purchasing program for the City of Milwaukee and report the findings of this study to the Common Council within 60 days.

Body

Whereas, Certain polystyrene and plastic products are harmful to the environment; and

 

Whereas, Environmentally preferable products are safer, minimally-polluting, and more energy-efficient; and

 

Whereas, Numerous cities and states, as well as the federal government, have implemented Environmentally Friendly Purchasing Programs to identify and procure environmentally-preferable products and services; and

 

Whereas, The City of Milwaukee is capable of using its purchasing power to reduce pollution and support private-sector environmental innovation; and

 

Whereas, Environmentally Friendly Purchasing programs can enlarge the market for environmentally-friendly products and practices; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Department of Administration - Purchasing Division shall study the feasibility and costs of implementing an Environmentally Friendly Purchasing program for the City of Milwaukee; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That the Department of Administration - Purchasing Division shall report the findings of this study to the Common Council within 60 days.
