Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Department of Public Works - Operations Division (Forestry Section) to accept and fund a Great Lakes Restoration Initiative grant from USDA Forest Service in the amount of $228,615 with a city share of $128,615 and a grantor share of $100,000. The purpose of the grant is to further diversify street tree canopy at risk of Emerald Ash Borer by removing and replacing 300 ash street trees with alternative tree species and to establish an above-ground container tree growing system at the Municipal Nursery to build capacity to meet increased demand for diverse street tree replacements.

Whereas, The City of Milwaukee appears to be eligible for grant funds from USDA Forest Service to further diversify street tree canopy by removing and replacing 300 ash street trees and to establish an above-ground container tree growing system at the Municipal Nursery to build capacity to meet increased demand for diverse street tree replacements; and

Whereas, The operation of this grant from 1/1/2019 to 12/31/2020 would cost $228,615 of which, $128,615 (56%) would be provided by the city and $100,000 (44%) would be provided by the grantor; now therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee that the Department of Public Works shall accept this grant without further approval unless the terms of the grant change as indicated in Section 304-81, of the Milwaukee Code of Ordinances; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is authorized to:

1. Commit funds within the Project/Grant Parent of the 2019 Special Revenue - Grant and Aid Projects the following amounts for the program/project titled Great Lakes Restoration Initiative Beyond Ash Mitigation:
