Resolution relative to application, acceptance and funding of a Solving Cold Cases With DNA Grant.
Analysis:
This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Police Department to apply for, accept and fund a Solving Cold Cases With DNA Grant from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, through the Wisconsin Department of Justice, Division of Criminal Investigation, in the amount of $131,040. The purpose of this grant is to fund overtime expenses relative to identifying, reviewing and investigating cold cases that have the potential to be solved through DNA analysis.
Body:
Whereas, The City of Milwaukee appears to be eligible for grant funds from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, through the Wisconsin Department of Justice, Division of Criminal Investigation, in the amount of $131,040; and
Whereas, The operation of this grant project from January 1, 2009 through May 31, 2010 would cost $131,040 of which, 100% would be provided by the grantor; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Police Department shall accept this grant without further approval unless the terms of this grant change as indicated in Section 304-81, Milwaukee Code of Ordinances; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is authorized to:
1. Commit funds within the Project/Grant Parent of the 2009 Special Revenue-Grant and Aid Projects, the following amounts for the project titled “Solving Cold Cases with DNA”:
