Analysis
This Resolution authorizes the proper City officials to extend the City’s contracts for the collection of City receivables, ambulance and emergency services delinquent accounts, and overdue Municipal Court judgments with the Kohn Law Firm and Harris & Harris, LTD through 2019 while the City completes a trial debt collection program with the State of Wisconsin Department of Revenue.
Body
Whereas, The Common Council has previously authorized the extension of the City’s contracts for the collection of City receivables, ambulance and emergency services delinquent accounts, and overdue Municipal Court judgments with the Kohn Law Firm and Harris & Harris, LTD through December 31, 2018 through Resolutions File Nos. 160855, 160200, and 170370; and

Whereas, At the direction of the Outstanding Debt Work Group, the City is implementing a trial debt collection program with the State of Wisconsin Department of Revenue which is projected to conclude at the end of 2018; and

Whereas, The information gathered from that trial will be instrumental in crafting the new request for proposals for the City’s debt collection contracts; and

Whereas, A new request for proposals will be issued in the summer of 2019, with the new contract(s) anticipated to commence on January 1, 2020; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee that the proper City officials are authorized to, by amendment, extend the term of the City’s contracts for the collection of City receivables, ambulance and emergency services delinquent accounts, and overdue Municipal Court judgments with the Kohn Law Firm and Harris & Harris, LTD through Decem...
