Resolution relative to acceptance and funding of a USDA Forest Service Great Lakes Restoration Initiative grant Milwaukee’s Green Playgrounds - Enhancing Play and Stormwater Management.
Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Department of Public Works - Operations Division (Forestry Section) to accept and fund a Great Lakes Restoration Initiative grant from USDA Forest Service in the amount of $217,000 with a city share of $17,000 and a grantor share of $200,000. The purpose of the project is to expand the city’s network of green infrastructure to restore Milwaukee’s urban watersheds by planting 800 trees on city-owned recreational facilities (MKE Parks).

Whereas, The City of Milwaukee appears to be eligible for grant funds from USDA Forest Service to plant 800 trees on city-owned recreational facilities (MKE Parks); and
Whereas, The operation of this grant from 1/1/2018 to 12/31/2019 would cost $217,000 of which, $17,000 (8%) would be provided by the city and $200,000 (92%) would be provided by the grantor; now therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee that the Department of Public Works shall accept this grant without further approval unless the terms of the grant change as indicated in Section 304-81, of the Milwaukee Code of Ordinances; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is authorized to:
1. Commit funds within the Project/Grant Parent of the 2018 Special Revenue - Grant and Aid Projects the following amounts for the program/project titled Great Lakes Restoration Initiative Milwaukee’s Green Playgrounds:
