Resolution relating to various voter registration initiatives.
Analysis
This resolution calls upon implementation of the following voter registration initiatives:
1. Urges the Mayor to include voter registration information in the Friday enrichment portion of the Mayor’s Earn and Learn Program.
2. Requires all City employees who are points of contact with the public to inquire about the residents’ voter registration status and to provide information regarding registration.
3. Directs the Community Development Block Grant Office to insert a requirement that all community-based organizations make voter registration information available to their customers.
Body

Whereas, Robust voter turnout is fundamental to a healthy democracy; and

Whereas, Voter turnout in the United States is much lower than most established democracies; and

Whereas, Increasing access to information can increase voter participation; and

Whereas, The City has several contact points with the public that can serve as additional opportunities to increase access to voting registration information, including the Friday enrichment portion of the Mayor’s Earn and Learn Program; help desks and information kiosks at libraries, City Hall, the Treasurer’s Office, the Assessor’s Office, License Division, and other points of contact between the City’s services and the public; and community-based organizations that receive Community Development Block Grant funds; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Mayor is urged to include voter registration information in the Friday enrichment portion of the Mayor’s Earn and Learn Program; and, be it

Further Resolved, That all City employees who are points of contact with the public shall inquire about the residents’ voter registration status and shall provide information regarding vote...
