Title

Resolution authorizing the City Engineer to apply for twelve (12) Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality grants.

Analysis

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is soliciting applications for funds under the Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ)  Program.  Successful grant applications will be funded 80 percent by the grant program. The Department of Public Works intends to submit nine applications.

Whereas, The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is soliciting applications for funds under the Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ)  Program; and

 

Whereas, The program is intended to improve air quality be encouraging alternatives to single occupancy motor vehicles and by making traffic flow more efficiently by optimizing traffic signals; and

 

Whereas, Department of Public Works intends to submit applications for the following projects:

 

1.                     Milwaukee Smart Trips Pilot Program

 

2.                     Pedestrian Countdown Timers at 47 Signalized Intersections

 

3.                     Pedestrian Countdown Timers at 53 Signalized Intersections

 

4.                     Computer Optimization of 103 Traffic Signals on E/W Capitol Drive and West Fond du Lac Avenue

 

5.                     Computer Optimization of 34 Traffic Signals in the Bay View Area

 

6.                     Install Semi-actuated operation at 32 Signalized Intersections, City wide

 

7.                     Install Semi-actuated operation at 10 Connecting Highway Intersections

 

8.                     Compressed Natural Gas fast fill station

 

9.                     Emission Reduction Initiative

 

10.                     Enhanced bus shelter stations

 

11.                     Multi-model transit centers

 

12.                     Norris Park Redevelopment Initiative

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the City Engineer is authorized to submit applications for the Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Program for the following projects:

 

1.                     Milwaukee Smart Trips Pilot Program - ( $310,000 )

 

2.                     Pedestrian Countdown Timers at 47 Signalized Intersections - ( $357,600 )

 

3.                     Pedestrian Countdown Timers at 53 Signalized Intersections - ( $418,600 )

 

4.                     Computer Optimization of 103 Traffic Signals on E/W Capitol Drive and West Fond du Lac Avenue - ( $260,000 )

 

5.                     Computer Optimization of 34 Traffic Signals in the Bay View Area - ( $90,300 )

 

6.                     Install Semi-actuated operation at 32 Signalized Intersections, City wide -

( $501,500 )

 

7.                     Install Semi-actuated operation at 10 Connecting Highway Intersections -

( $201,200 )

 

8.                     Compressed Natural Gas fast fill station - ( $3,000,000 )
