Analysis
This resolution appropriates $1,000,000 from the 2018 Common Council Contingent Fund for the purchase of lead-removing water filters and expansion of the City’s lead safety educational campaigns. The Commissioner of the Health Department is authorized to apportion the funds between the purchase of lead-removing water filters and the lead safety educational campaigns.

Body
Whereas, The City of Milwaukee Health Department, as part of a comprehensive strategy to reduce lead in drinking water exposure to city residents, has been coordinating distribution of countertop, faucet-mount, and pitcher-style point-of-use water filters to vulnerable populations in Milwaukee; and

Whereas, The Health Department has undertaken various educational campaigns related to the presence and risks of lead in water, paint and soil; and

Whereas, The Common Council desires to purchase additional lead-removing water filters for distribution to city residents and also to expand the City’s lead safety educational campaigns; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that $1,000,000 is reserved and appropriated from the 2018 Common Council Contingent Fund (0001-9990-C001-006300) for the purchase of lead-removing water filters and expansion of the City’s lead safety educational campaigns; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the proper City officials are authorized to establish the appropriate accounts or funds to expend these funds; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Commissioner of the Health Department shall have the authority to apportion funds for the purchase of lead-removing water filters and expansion of the City’s lead safety educational campaigns.
