Title

Resolution accepting donation of a vacant lot at 2347 South 16th Street from Guillermo Valdez-Garcia and Leticia Lopez-Rizo, in the 12th Aldermanic District.

Analysis

This resolution permits the City of Milwaukee to accept donation of a privately owned vacant lot.

Body

Whereas, The City of Milwaukee (“City”) acquired a duplex at 2347 South 16th Street in rem in November of 2014; and

 

Whereas, The City sold the duplex to Guillermo Valdez-Garcia and Leticia Lopez-Rizo in February of 2016; and

 

Whereas, ACTS Housing (“ACTS”) provided homebuyer counseling and renovation technical assistance to Guillermo Valdez-Garcia and Leticia Lopez-Rizo; and

 

Whereas, During the course of renovation, actions were taken that rendered the home uninhabitable and unable to be renovated; and

 

Whereas, The duplex at 2347 South 16th Street remains a blighting influence to the surrounding area; and

 

Whereas, ACTS has agreed to demolish the structure at 2347 South 16th Street at the sole expense of ACTS, only if the City agrees to accept a donation of the vacant lot after demolition and release deed restrictions requiring owner-occupancy; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the City is authorized to accept the donation of a vacant lot at 2347 South 16th Street from Guillermo Valdez-Garcia and Leticia Lopez-Rizo; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That the Commissioner of the Department of City Development, or designee, is authorized to execute all necessary documents to effectuate the intent of this resolution; however, the City shall not accept title to the property until all structures on the premises are demolished at the sole expense of ACTS and to City specification and only after all outstanding charges against the property are paid.
