This resolution supports Milwaukee County Resolution File Number 17-267, sponsored by Supervisors Lipscomb, Dimitrijevic, and Cullen, which authorizes the Director of the Milwaukee County Department of Transportation, in conjunction with the Milwaukee County Transit System, to submit a proposal to the City of Milwaukee to operate the Milwaukee Streetcar. In addition, this resolution extends the deadline for the submission of the request for proposal to June 5, 2017.

Whereas, On February 10, 2015, the Common Council adopted Common Council Resolution File 141313, approving the Milwaukee Streetcar Project; and
Whereas, The Department of Public Works is currently seeking bid responses to a request for proposal for an operations and maintenance contractor for the Milwaukee Streetcar Project; and
Whereas, The Department of Public Works has established April 4, 2017, as the deadline for the request for proposal; and
Whereas, The Milwaukee County Transit System currently operates the largest mass transit system in the State of Wisconsin; and
Whereas, The Milwaukee County Transit System is not a private, for-profit entity; and
Whereas, Urging Milwaukee County to submit a proposal to operate the Milwaukee Streetcar is not an endorsement of County operation of the Streetcar; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Common Council supports Milwaukee County Resolution File Number 17-267, sponsored by Supervisors Lipscomb, Dimitrijevic, and Cullen, which authorizes the Director of the Milwaukee County Department of Transportation, in conjunction with the Milwaukee County Transit System, to submit a proposal to the City of Milwaukee to operate the Milwaukee streetcar; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Commissioner of the Department of Public Works shall extend the deadline for submission of the request for proposals until June 5, 2017; and, be it
Further Resolved, That upon adoption of this resolution, the City Clerk shall send copies of this resolution to the Office of the County Executive of Milwaukee County and to each member of the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors.
