Resolution to approve settlement agreement in the matter of Williams v. City of Milwaukee, in the amount of 50,000.

Analysis

This resolution authorizes settlement of litigation pending at the Equal Rights Division of the State of Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, Williams v. City of Milwaukee, ERD Case Numbers CR201500697, CR201600081, and CR201604028, cross-filed as EEOC Case Numbers 26G201500615C, 26G201600437C, 26G201600049C in the amount of Fifty Thousand and no/100 Dollars ($50,000) for all damages of any nature, including compensatory damages, back pay, front pay, pension loss or other economic damages, attorney’s fees and costs, and any other claim for damages that could be brought concerning the subject matter of the litigation.

Body

Whereas, Raushanah Williams, a former employee of the City of Milwaukee, Department of Public Works, filed the complaints in the above-captioned actions with the Equal Rights Division of the State of Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, and the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, alleging discrimination based on sex and retaliation for engaging in protected activity, ERD Case Numbers CR201500697, CR201600081, and CR201604028, cross-filed as EEOC Case Numbers 26G201500615C, 26G201600437C, 26G201600049C: and

 

Whereas, The parties have agreed to settle this lawsuit in the amount of Fifty Thousand and no/100 Dollars ($50,000), for all damages, wage loss, front pay, pension loss or other benefits, attorney’s fees, costs, compensatory damages, and any other claims for damages of any nature that could have been brought, as set forth the in the attached proposed Settlement Agreement and General Release; now, therefore be it

 

Resolved,, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee that the City Attorney be and hereby is authorized to execute the attached Settlement Agreement and General Release, and such further documents as may be necessary and related thereto; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee that upon execution of all of the general release by plaintiff and her former attorney, as approved by the City Attorney, the proper City officers be and hereby are authorized and directed to issue City checks as follows: $33,500 to Raushanah Williams as damages; $10,000 to Law Offices of Maxwell Charles Livingston as attorney fees and costs; and $6,500 made payable to Lawton & Cates, S.C.; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That these funds shall be charged to the Damages and Claims Fund, Account No. 0001 1490 636506 2631 S118.
