HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION
|
Minutes note: Mr. Tim Askin, Historic Preservation Commission staff, said the applicant wishes to replace the second and third story windows. The fourth floor has vinyl windows, which staff doesn't know when they were installed. He feels the windows are repairable with wood epoxy and paint. The applicant is proposing windows with a vinyl coating. Staff recommends denial and would like to work with the applicant to repair the windows as needed and provide appropriate weatherization. This is the third time the applicant has asked for replacement windows that are not wood.
Don Arenson - 608 N. Broadway building owner - the windows are in complete disrepair. The product he is now presenting at the table may be different from the product he submitted to staff.
Mike Neumann - Kolbe company - the window is all wood with a paint finish with no vinyl or cladding on the window. He says it's replacing a wood window with a painted wood window.
The Commission wants that the radius be retained so it retains the rounded form on top and the wood will mirror what is currently there.
Mr. Askin asks that this be held and a new application be requested, which might be able to be handled as a staff approval.
Mr. Arenson said that the radius is in-fill to 2" and it wouldn't be worth it to him to get custom windows made. He wants to either have these windows with the mismatched radius or a square window.
Ms. Hatala thinks that staff needs to review conditions on-site. Ms. Keating Kahn will send over her maintenance man to speak with Mr. Arenson about what repairs can be made with expoxy - she had a number of windows repaired that look just like new and this might be an alternative for Mr. Arenson.
