Analysis:
This resolution authorizes acceptance and expenditure of a Smart Policing Initiative - Body Worn Camera Demonstration Program Grant from the Edward Byrne Memorial Competitive Grant Program through the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs.
Body:
Whereas, Under the terms of CFDA #16.751, the City of Milwaukee appears to be eligible for grant funds from the Edward Byrne Memorial Competitive Grant Program; and
Whereas, In conjunction with the Urban Institute as a research partner, the purpose of this grant is to devise an implementation plan for the Body Worn Camera System, analyze the cost benefits and produce operational knowledge on the ideal and reasonable use of these cameras; and
Whereas, The operation of this grant program from October 1, 2015 to September 30, 2018 would cost $624,206 of which 100% would be provided by the grantor; and now therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Police Department shall accept this grant without further approval unless the terms of the grant change as indicated in Section 304-81, Milwaukee Code of Ordinances; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is authorized to:
1. Commit funds within the Project/Grant Parent of the 2015 Special Revenue -Grant and Aid Projects, the following amounts for the program titled: Byrne Body Camera Evaluation Grant:
