Title
Substitute resolution establishing a sister city relationship between the City of Milwaukee and Tarime District, Tanzania.
Analysis
This resolution authorizes the establishment of a sister city relationship between the City of Milwaukee and Tarime District, Tanzania, in accordance with the agreement attached to this file. This sister city relationship shall expire after 5 years unless extended for another 5 years by Common Council resolution.
Body
Whereas, The Common Council created the Sister Cities Committee to assist in the establishment and maintenance of sister city relationships pursuant to Sister Cities International guidelines; and
Whereas, The Sister Cities Committee reviews requests for new relationships and investigates and makes recommendations to the Common Council concerning the establishment of new relationships and the maintenance or termination of existing friendly exchange relationships and sister city relationships; and
Whereas, The Sister Cities Committee has reviewed the application of Tarime District, Tanzania and recommends that a sister city relationship be established pursuant to ch. 335 of the Code; and
Whereas, A sister city relationship between the City of Milwaukee and Tarime District, Tanzania, will benefit both parties in the areas of economic and agricultural development, education, health, cultural exchange, social awareness and tourism; and
Whereas, The sister city relationship will receive local support through the nonprofit Mosorec International Foundation; and
Whereas, The sister city relationship will also receive support in Tarime District through Mosorec International Foundation and a national political figure in Tanzania; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the establishment of a sister city relationship between the City of Milwaukee and Tarime District, Tanzania, is authorized; and, b...
