Title
Resolution authorizing the acceptance of contributions for the MKE Peace Project.
Analysis
This resolution authorizes the City Clerk’s Office to accept contributions to support the MKE Peace Project. The MKE Project challenges youth in the central city to initiate an assessment of factors that contribute to violence in their neighborhoods and to offer solutions. Contributions will be sought to fund incentives for youth participation in the project.
Body
Whereas, The MKE Peace Project allows Milwaukee’s youth to identify their own neighborhood challenges and opportunities for communal safety and advancement; and
Whereas, The MKE Peace Project provides Milwaukee’s youth with an opportunity to represent and advocate on behalf of their own generation and neighborhoods to influence public policy related to civic issues, specifically those relating to violence prevention; and
Whereas, Middle and high school youth in Milwaukee are encouraged to participate in a group- level project by submitting written entries of their outlooks on the violence occurring within the community and how these issues should be resolved; and
Whereas, The MKE Peace Project gives Milwaukee’s youth the opportunity to take a proactive approach to promote peace by presenting ideas to reduce violence within the city; and
Whereas, Participating in the MKE Peace Project will allow Milwaukee’s youth to advocate for safer playgrounds, parks, schools, neighborhoods and city, thereby having a voice and sharing visions for peace; and
Whereas, City leaders, community organizations and local businesses support the efforts of Milwaukee’s youth and their participation in the MKE Peace Project; now, therefore, be it
