This resolution assigns the honorary street name of "Rev. C.E. Thornhill" to West Christine Lane from North Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive to North 5th Street in the 6th Aldermanic District.
Body
Whereas, The Mt. Moriah Baptist Church at 2747 N. 4th Street is renewing its commitment to the neighborhood surrounding West Christine Lane between Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive and North 5th Street by building a chapel at 418 West Christine Lane which will in the future become the fellowship hall for a new church building on the site to replace church’s current facility; and

Whereas, Rev. Charles E. Thornhill, who has been pastor of the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church for 20 years, has been the driving force and the visionary behind the church’s physical building expansion; and

Whereas, Rev. Thornhill’s vision is that the new Mt. Moriah Baptist Church building and fellowship hall will position the church to serve as a beacon of light to guide the surrounding community for generations to come; and

Whereas, The honorary naming of West Christine Lane between North Dr. Martin Luther King,Jr. Drive and North 5th Street as “Rev. C.E. Thornhill” will serve as fitting tribute to Rev. Thornhill’s vision of the community’s future and his decades of service shepherding the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church congregation: and

Whereas, Section 113-3 of the Code of Ordinances provides a procedure for assigning honorary street names, and s. 113-3-6 specifies criteria for the using the names of individuals when assigning honorary street names; and
