Title:
Resolution to authorize the naming of West Galena Street between North Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and proposed private North 2nd Street, and North 2nd Street between West Cherry Street and West Pleasant Street as private roads, located in the 6th Aldermanic District.
Analysis:
To support new development in Schlitz Park, the property owner has requested that the City designate a block of West Galena Street between North Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and proposed private North 2nd Street, and the blocks of North 2nd Street between West Cherry Street and West Pleasant Street as private roads. With West Galena Street and North 2nd Street designated as private roads, addresses can be assigned to the renovated buildings to serve the needs of owners, tenants and emergency service providers.
Body:
Whereas, The Brewery Works, Inc. is developing Schlitz Park along the former West Galena Street and North 2nd Street rights-of-way and desires these roads to be designated as private streets; and
Whereas, By the City formally designating West Galena Street between North Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and proposed private North 2nd Street, and North 2nd Street between West Cherry Street and West Pleasant Street as private roads, building addresses can be assigned to support mail delivery and emergency service responses; and
Whereas, The owner has requested that these private road names be consistent with the public street names of West Galena Street and North 2nd Street that existed prior to those streets being vacated; and
Whereas, Chapter 113-1 of the Milwaukee Code of Ordinances provides for naming private roads and the owner has provided a legal description of the limits of the private roads; and
Whereas, As a condition of adopting this resolution, the owner is responsible for placing brown street name signs in accord with Chapter 113-1 at their cost, as well as placing and mainta...
