Resolution relative to acceptance and funding of a 2014 Global Youth Service Day Lead Agency Grant.
Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Department of City Development to accept and fund a 2014 Global Youth Service Day Lead Agency Grant from Youth Service America, Inc. in the amount of $1,503.40 with a City Share of $0 and a Grantor Share of $1,503.40. The purpose of this project is to conduct planning, coordination and promotion of citywide activities as part of 2014 Global Youth Service Day on April 11-13, 2014.
Body
Whereas, The City of Milwaukee (“City”) is eligible for grant funds from Youth Service America, Inc. to plan, coordinate and promote citywide 2014 Global Youth Service Day (“2014 GYSD”) activities; and

Whereas, The City received 2011, 2012 and 2013 GYSD Lead Agency Grant funds from Youth Service America, Inc. to plan, coordinate and promote citywide GYSD activities in 2011, 2012 and 2013; and

Whereas, Milwaukee’s 2013 GYSD attracted more than 1,600 young people who participated in 26 service projects that generated more than 6,200 hours of community service to improve Milwaukee schools, neighborhoods and communities; and

Whereas, Community service and service-learning are effective strategies to engage students in their education and better prepare them for high school graduation, career planning and post-secondary educational success, while providing needed services to other Milwaukee residents; and

Whereas, The operation of this 2014 GYSD Grant from October 1, 2013 to June 30, 2014 will cost $1,503.40 of which, $0 (0 percent) will be provided by the City and $1,503.40 (100 percent) will be provided by the Grantor; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Department of City Development shall accept said grant without further approval unless the terms of the grant change as indicated in Section 304.81, Milwaukee Code ...
