Title

Analysis

This resolution designates the 47th Street Bungalow District, the 2500 block of North 47th Street, as an Historic District.

Body

Whereas, The Milwaukee Historic Preservation Ordinance, Section 308-81 of the Milwaukee Code of Ordinances, as amended, provides that Historic Sites, Structures and Districts may be designated by the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee upon the recommendation of the Historic Preservation Commission; and

 

Whereas, The Historic Preservation Commission recommends that the 47th Street Bungalow District, the 2500 block of North 47th Street, be designated as an Historic District; and

 

Whereas, This District possesses integrity of location, design, setting, materials, workmanship and association and fulfills the following criterion set forth in Section 308-81(2)(e):

 

e-1. Its exemplification of the development of the cultural, economic, social or historic heritage of the City of Milwaukee, State of Wisconsin or of the United States.

 

e-3. Is identified with a person or persons who significantly contributed to the culture and development of the City of Milwaukee.

 

e-4. Portrays the environment of a group of people in an era of history characterized by a distinctive architectural style.

 

e-6. Its identification as the work of an artist, architect, interior designer, craftsperson or master builder whose individual works have influenced the development of the City of Milwaukee, State of Wisconsin or of the United States.

 

; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee that the 47th Street Bungalow Historic District, the 2500 block of North 47th Street, and further described as follows:

 

Beginning at the intersection of the north curb line of West Wright Street and the east property line of 2500 North 47th Street; then North along the east (rear) property lines of all properties with frontage on North 47th Street to the intersection of the south curb line of West Clarke Street; then West along this curb line to the intersection of the west (rear) property line of 2579 North 47th Street; then South along the west property lines of all properties with frontage along North 47th Street to the intersection of the north curb line of West Wright Street; then East to the point of beginning in the City of Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin.

 

be designated as a Milwaukee Historic District. The Preservation Guidelines pursuant to the Historic Designation Study Report, a copy of which is attached to this Common Council File, shall apply to this District and are adopted by the Common Council as part of this resolution.
