Analysis
This resolution authorizes the proper City officers to execute an amendment to the contract with Kohn Law Firm, S.C., ("Contractor"), adjusting fees paid to Contractor for collecting delinquent personal and real property tax bills.
Body
Whereas, On December 20, 2011, the Common Council authorized the execution of a contract ("Contract") with Kohn Law Firm, S.C., ("Contractor"), for the collection of delinquent personal and real property tax bills; and
 
Whereas, In consideration of a change in operating procedures that may result in higher revenues under the Contract, Contractor has agreed to reduce its fees; now, therefore, be it
 
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee that the proper City officers are hereby authorized to execute the attached amendment to the Contract with Kohn Law Firm for the Collection of Receivables of the City of Milwaukee to include reductions in the fee schedule as follows:
 
Personal and real property taxes:
 
a.      On all claims $10,000 and less, 10% of the amount collected pre-lawsuit and 17% of the amount collected post-lawsuit. Effective November 1, 2013, on all delinquent general real estate tax claims of $10,000 and less, the fee shall be 9.5% of the amount collected pre-lawsuit.
 
b.      On all claims over $10,000, 7% of the amount collected pre-lawsuit and 13% of the amount collected post-lawsuit. Effective November 1, 2013, on all delinquent general real estate tax claims over $10,000, the fee shall be 6.5% of the amount collected pre-lawsuit.
