Substitute resolution authorizing the Milwaukee Fire Department’s application, acceptance and funding of a 2009 Homeland Security Exercise Grant from the State of Wisconsin Office of Justice Assistance.

Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Fire Department (MFD) to apply for, accept and fund a 2009 Homeland Security Exercise Grant from the State of Wisconsin Office of Justice Assistance (OJA) in the amount of $27,011 funded entirely by the grantor. The purpose of this grant is to pay for a consultant and personnel for a Haz-Mat Mutual Aid Exercise with the Racine Fire Department.

Whereas, The Milwaukee Fire Department has been a recipient of past grants sponsored by the State of Wisconsin Office of Justice Assistance; and

Whereas, The State of Wisconsin Office of Justice Assistance is funding grants from the 2009 Homeland Security Grant for exercises to improve emergency responder capabilities; and

Whereas, The Milwaukee Fire Department appears to be eligible to receive a 100% grantor-funded 2009 Homeland Security Exercise Grant in the amount of $27,011 to fund a consultant and pay for personnel costs for a Haz-Mat Mutual Aid Exercise with the Racine Fire Department; and

Whereas, The operation of this grant project from April 1, 2010 through June 30, 2011 would cost $27,011, which requires no City match; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Milwaukee Fire Department is authorized to apply for and accept a 2009 Homeland Security Exercise Grant from the State of Wisconsin Office of Justice Assistance in the amount of $27,011 and to expend such funds for that purpose, without further approval unless the terms of the grant change as indicated in Section 304-81, Milwaukee Code of Ordinances; and, be it
