Resolution approving a Law Enforcement Services Grant Agreement with Havenwoods Economic Development Corporation.
Analysis
This resolution approves a Law Enforcement Services Grant Agreement (“Agreement”) between the City of Milwaukee, acting through its Chief of Police, and Havenwoods Economic Development Corporation (“HEDC”). Under terms of the Agreement, the Milwaukee Police Department will assign a police officer to provide surveillance of drug dealers and their respective activities as part of the Community Intervention Project, a community crime intervention initiative in the City’s 4th Police District. HEDC will provide the financial resources necessary to reimburse the salary of this “community intervention officer”, not to exceed $42,000 for the remainder of 2010.
Body
Whereas, 501(c)(3) corporations seeking to enhance public safety through community crime intervention initiatives are among those entities that may provide grants funds to the police department for additional law enforcement services per s. 304-83 of the Milwaukee Code of Ordinances; and

Whereas, The Community Intervention Project is a community crime intervention initiative targeting low to mid-level drug dealers within the City’s 4th Police District; and

Whereas, Havenwoods Economic Development Corporation (HEDC), a Wisconsin 501(c)(3) corporation, has offered the Milwaukee Police Department a grant to fund the assignment of a law enforcement officer to provide surveillance of drug dealers and their respective activities as part of this Community Intervention Project; and

Whereas, The Chief of Police has indicated a willingness to provide this special assignment police officer in accordance with the terms and conditions of the Agreement attached to this file; and
