Title

Resolution authorizing the City Engineer to apply for four Highway Safety Improvement Program grants.

Analysis

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is soliciting applications for funds under the Highway Safety Improvement (HSIP) Program formerly the Hazard Elimination Safety (HES) Program. The program is intended to reduce the number and severity of vehicle and pedestrian crashes. Successful grant applications will be funded 90 percent by the grant program. The Department of Public Works intends to submit four applications.

Body

Whereas, The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is soliciting applications for funds under the Highway Safety Improvement (HSIP) Program; and

 

Whereas, The program is intended to reduce the number and severity of vehicle and pedestrian crashes; and

 

Whereas, The Department of Public Works (DPW) has identified four projects for infrastructure related improvements; and

 

Whereas, DPW intends to submit applications for the following projects:

 

1. North Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. & West North Avenue

2. West Kilbourn Avenue & North 6th Street

3. North Teutonia Avenue & West Villard Avenue

4. Three Connecting Highway Intersections

 

; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the City Engineer is authorized to submit applications for the Highway Safety Improvement Program at the following locations:

 

1. North Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. & West North Avenue

2. West Kilbourn Avenue & North 6th Street

3. North Teutonia Avenue & West Villard Avenue

4. Three Connecting Highway Intersections

 

; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That any successful grant projects will be brought to the Common Council for approval to enter into Project Agreements.
