Title
Resolution authorizing the removal of the George Washington statue from the Court of Honor in front of the Central Library for the purpose of its restoration.
Analysis
Conservation of Sculpture and Objects Studio, Inc. is authorized to remove the bronze sculpture of George Washington and dependent bronze figures from the pedestal of the George Washington statue in the Court of Honor in front of the Central Library for the purpose of restoration. The Department of Public Works is authorized to provide assistance in the removal.

Whereas, The George Washington statue is a full-length bronze sculpture of George Washington mounted on a granite pedestal, and includes 2 dependent bronze figures arranged at the base of the pedestal, and is located in the Court of Honor in front of the Central Library at 814 W. Wisconsin Ave.; and
Whereas, The George Washington statue was created by Richard Henry Park and dedicated on November 7, 1885, and subsequently gifted to the City of Milwaukee by Elizabeth Plankinton; and
Whereas, The George Washington statue is in a state of disrepair due to corrosion and exposure to the elements, and is therefore in need of significant restoration; and
Whereas, Westown Association is a non-profit business association focused on championing the economic and social development of the Westown neighborhood of downtown Milwaukee; and
Whereas, Westown Association is in the process of contracting with Conservation of Sculpture and Objects Studio, Inc., to restore and repair the George Washington statue, at Westown Association’s expense, at a facility in Forest Park, IL; now, therefore, be it
