Title
Resolution establishing a City of Milwaukee cloud computing policy for City employees and departments.
Analysis
This resolution establishes a City cloud computing policy.  Through this policy the City will establish a process whereby employees can use cloud services without jeopardizing data and computing resources.
Body
Whereas, The City Information Management Committee is responsible for policy and management of the City's information resources; and
 
Whereas, Cloud computing offers a number of advantages including low costs, high performance and quick delivery of services; and
 
Whereas, Without adequate controls, cloud computing can potentially expose individuals and organizations to online threats such as data loss or theft and unauthorized access to networks; and
 
Whereas, The City remains committed to enabling employees to do their jobs as efficiently as possible through the use of technology; and
 
Whereas, The City Information Management Committee has prepared a City cloud computing policy, which was approved by the committee on December 13, 2013; and
 
Whereas, The scope of this policy includes all City employees and the use of all external cloud services; and
 
Whereas, Through this policy, the City will establish a process whereby employees can use cloud services while protecting the integrity and confidentiality of data and the security of the network; now, therefore, be it
 
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that a City cloud computing policy, a copy of which is attached to this file, is adopted as City policy.
