Title

A charter ordinance relating to persons eligible to become officers in the fire department relief association.

Sections

20-18-3 rc

Analysis

Current charter provisions do not allow anyone to hold office in the fire department relief association unless the person is in the active employment of the city of Milwaukee.  This charter ordinance allows anyone who is a member of the fire fighters relief association to hold an office as is provided in s. 213.10 (5) (b), Wis. Stats.

Body

The Mayor and Common Council of the City of Milwaukee do ordain as follows:

Part 1.  Section 20-18-3 of the charter is repealed and recreated to read:

20-18.  Fire Department Relief Association.

3.  OFFICERS.  No person shall be elected to or hold any office in the fire department relief association unless the person is a member of the fire department relief association.  If a person’s membership in the association is terminated while the person holds any office of the association, the person’s term of office shall thereupon be terminated, and the members of the association who are entitled to vote, as provided in the association’s bylaws, shall immediately elect a successor.

Part 2.  This is a charter ordinance and shall take effect 60 days after its passage and publication, unless within 60 days a referendum petition is filed as provided in

s. 66.0101(5), Wis. Stats., in which event this ordinance shall not take effect until submitted to a referendum and approved by a majority of the electors voting thereon.
