Title
Resolution authorizing the City Engineer to apply for a Highway Safety Improvement Program grant for the intersection of West Wright Street and North 35th Street.
Analysis
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is soliciting applications for funds under the Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP). The program is intended to reduce the number and severity of vehicle and pedestrian crashes. Successful will be funded 90 percent by the grant program. The Department of Public Works intends to submit an application under this program to install a traffic signal at the intersection of West Wright Street and North 35th Street in an effort to reduce accident frequency at the intersection.

Whereas, The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is soliciting applications for funds under the Highway Safety Improvement Program; and
Whereas, The program is intended to reduce the number and severity of vehicle and pedestrian crashes; and
Whereas, The Department of Public Works has identified the intersection of West Wright Street and North 35th Street as having a higher frequency of crashes through the Departments ongoing accident identification and surveillance program; and
Whereas, Installation of traffic signals at this intersection is recommended as an accident countermeasure to improve intersection safety; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee that the City Engineer
is authorized to submit an application for the installation of a traffic signal at the intersection of West Wright Street and North 35th Street under the Highway Safety Improvement Program; and, be it
Further Resolved, That if the grant application is successful, the project will be brought to the Common Council for approval to enter into a Project Agreement.
