Title:
Resolution relative to application, acceptance and funding of a Homicide Review Commission Evaluation Support Justice Assistance Grant.

Analysis:
This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Police Department to apply for, accept, and fund a Homicide Review Commission Evaluation Support Justice Assistance Grant from the Department of Justice-Office of Justice Assistance, in the amount of $25,000, with a city share of $0 and a grantor share of $25,000. The purpose of this project is to fund the Homicide Review Commission, which will in turn provide the Police Department with support and assistance with gun violence and anti gang evaluation efforts.

Body:
Whereas, The City of Milwaukee appears to be eligible for grant funds from the Department of Justice- Office of Justice Assistance; and

Whereas, The Milwaukee Police Department may enter into agreements with Dr. Mallory O’Brien and Research Assistant Laurie Woods as consultants to coordinate the commission’s activities and to collect, analyze and report data; and

Whereas, The operation of this grant from 01/01/08 to 09/30/08 would cost $25,000, of which $0 would be provided by the city and $25,000 (100%) would be provided by the grantor; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that application to the Department of Justice- Office of Justice Assistance is authorized and the Police Department shall accept this grant without further approval unless the terms of the grant change as indicated in Section 304-81, Milwaukee Code of Ordinances; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is authorized to:

1. Commit funds within the Project/Grant Parent of the 2008 Special Revenue-Grant and Aid Projects, the following amount for the program titled: Homicide Review Commission Evaluation Support Justice Assistance Grant
