Resolution relating to Milwaukee Board of School Directors proposals for closing or reconstituting schools.
Analysis
This resolution requests the Milwaukee Board of School Directors to hold public hearings in those aldermanic districts affected when considering proposals for closing or reconstituting a school within the City of Milwaukee.
Body
Whereas, The Milwaukee Board of School Directors is the policy-making body for the school system and considers proposals and plans for closing or reconstituting schools; and
Whereas, For example, the board may close a school or reconstitute a school from a kindergarten-through-fifth grade school to a kindergarten-through-eighth grade school or kindergarten-through-twelfth grade school impacts the neighborhood surrounding a school; and
Whereas, The Common Council is the policy-making and legislative body for the City of Milwaukee and Council members are responsible to the constituents in their districts for city services and issues, and are often requested by constituents to review and respond, to issues proposed by other local governmental bodies, which can impact constituents’ quality of life; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Milwaukee Board of School Directors is requested to hold public hearings in those aldermanic districts affected by proposals for closing or reconstituting schools; and, be it
Further Resolved, That information pertaining to a proposal for a school closing or reconstituting shall be forwarded to the affected Council member or members by the Milwaukee Board of School Directors and also be made available to their constituents.
