Title
Resolution authorizing the acceptance and expenditure of up to $746,000 in private contributions for training members of the Milwaukee Fire Department and purchasing various supplies for the Safe Schools/Healthy Students Initiative, Project Staying Alive program.
Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Fire Department to accept and expend up to $746,000 in private contributions for training department members and providing supplies for the Project Staying Alive program. The department’s current Council authorizations limit the use of private contributions to maintaining the special teams training programs and fire safety education. Milwaukee Public Schools wishes to contribute up to $96,000 to provide for firefighter training, instructors, and supplies related to the Safe Schools/Healthy Students Initiative and Project Survive Alive program.
Body
Whereas, Section 304-24 of the Milwaukee Code of Ordinances regulates the receipt, appropriation and expenditures of contributions received by the City; and

Whereas, On November 6, 2001, the Common Council adopted Resolution 010844, amending Resolution 970233 and further amending Resolution 941142 to allow the Fire Department to increase the amount of private contributions to $250,000 from the $75,000 authorized initially for the purpose of maintaining the special teams training programs; and

Whereas, On June 23, 2003, the Common Council adopted Resolution 030267, authorizing the Milwaukee Fire Department to accept up to $400,000 in private contributions for fire safety education; and

Whereas, On November 21, 2007, the Common Council adopted Resolution 070875, authorizing the Milwaukee Fire Department to accept up to $178,148 in private contributions for fire safety education; and
